The Crazy Season – Jim Ody – What Do I Read Now?

I’d like to thank Zoe of Zooloo’s Book Tours for inviting me to join this blog tour for The Crazy Season, by Jim Ody, published by Question Mark Press.

Joel Baxter is infamous for solving weird and bizarre cases that others avoid. So, when he receives an email from a teenage boy Tim saying his town is cursed, he cannot turn it down.

“…I will more than likely be dead when you read this. There is nothing I can do about it. It’s the curse, and we’ve hit The Crazy Season.” Every 20 years, there are a handful of unexplained teenage deaths and it’s started again.

With the help of his straight-talking friend Melody, they set out to get to the bottom of the alleged curse. Everybody in Black Rock has secrets and nobody wants to speak.

The closer they get to truth the more Joel and Melody realise that their involvement is far from coincidental.

Jim writes dark psychological/thrillers, Horror and YA books that have endings you won’t see coming, and favours stories packed with wit. He has written over a dozen novels and many more short-stories spanning many genres.

Jim has a very strange sense of humour and is often considered a little odd. When not writing he will be found playing the drums, watching football and eating chocolate. He lives with his long-suffering wife, three beautiful children and two indignant cats in Swindon, Wiltshire UK.

My Review – The Crazy Season

Joel Baxter has finally got what he always wanted in life, his own family. A wife and daughter, after growing up in various foster homes, never knowing his real parents. His journalism is getting his recognition and life is good. And then, it isn’t. In one fell swoop, its taken from him. And a year on, he is trying to still come to terms with it. Now he’s just trying to fill his days, do readers really believe in alien abduction, he doesn’t think so.

Are people interested in reading about alien abductions though? Joel doesn’t think so. So when he receives an email he’s draw to investigate and this leads his to Black Rock. Teenage suicides have marred the town for the past 40 years and it’s happening again, The Crazy Season is upon them and it seems Joel may be able to uncover whats going on. Oddly he takes his best friends sister with him, Melody is not stranger to Black Rock and it starts to feels like they have have been drawn there for a reason.

Teenagers are the centre of the investigation, and what links them, and their families to this weird situation, will Joel and Melody uncover the secrets that have been covered up for 40 years and end this curse?
