My Review – Voices Of The Dead

Here we are with the fourth instalment of the ‘Will Raven and Sarah Fisher’ series. A odd fit of him and her colleagues. Sarah has long proven her skills and knowledge with Will and Dr Simpson, and yet the oppression Sarah faces in her quest for medical qualifications continues to plague her. However, with the new technique of mesmerism on the horizon from the shows of the so called ‘Dr Malham’ is this something that Sarah could gain training in? Or as suspected by Will and Dr Simpson, is it just a dangerous illusionist trick of a new quack side show.

Now that Will is married, his wife Eugénie wants him to move on from being a ‘understudy’ and get his own practice up and running, she’s pregnant with their 2nd child and he feels under pressure to move house also. Work and the ghosts of the old town, come calling again to haunt and taunt him. They knew keeping Will onside would be useful. When body parts start being discovered, firstly in the surgeons hall – not unheard of to have body parts there. But when other parts of the deceased show up in various other locations, murder is suspected and the culprit has gone on the run. Will’s knowledge of the old town and its inhabitants serve him well here.

Along with a few names we’ve seen before in pervious books, Will and Sarahs’s characters have developed, they have a good relationship, Will believes in Sarah and knows she would be a capable doctor, but his hands are tied. Plus they are so deeply wound up in the deceit that is occurring around them there is no time for much else. The sick of Edinburgh are in need of more than Chloroform at present. The intrigue, foggy Edinburgh scenery and historical medical drama all add to this plot and ensure that the pages keep turning.

Great series and l do hope there’s more. Please order your copy here
